1. While I am not keen on surveys that seem to talk our towns down for the sake of a headline, it is clear that jobs and the economy are the big issue in this election. Cutting the deficit is not just about savings from next year, but also through growth and new jobs. As well as the Clyde Gateway regeneration, there is no reason why Rutherglen can not also benefit from Labour's plans for a £2bn green investment bank to help re-balance the economy and create jobs in manufacturing and engineering.
