South Lanarkshire Lifestyle Eastfield’s sports pitches have re-opened for business following a £125,000 upgrade.
The project was fully funded by South Lanarkshire Council with the work carried out by contractors Doe Sports. This replaced the ageing, sand dressed, tennis courts and football pitches providing a fantastic facility that will be suitable for both tennis and football for many years to come.
Commenting on the development, Councillor Hamish Stewart, chair of the council’s community services committee and the board of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said: “Individuals and sports teams in South Lanarkshire will benefit tremendously from this quality facility.
“It will hopefully be a springboard for coaching and skills development for the next generation of football and tennis players enabling them to attain a high standard on both a local and national scale.
“This is an exciting development for the whole of the council area and demonstrates the commitment of the council to improve the facilities and opportunities for sports in South Lanarkshire.”
South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Ltd manage all sports and culture on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council.
General manager, Gerry Campbell added: “We are grateful for the support and additional financial commitment from South Lanarkshire Council which has given us the opportunity to upgrade more quality outdoor sports facilities to support our budding sportsmen and women throughout South Lanarkshire.”
Previously, sports teams in the area had complained to the Reformer about the standard of the old pitches, which, despite being billed as all-weather surfaces, regularly saw matches called off after a frost or snow - and heavy rain.
The newly upgraded facility is now open and bookings can be made to 0141 642 9500.
