Football: Lang happy with five-star showing

Cambuslang Rangers continued there recent good league form with a third straight win.

The convincing 5-1 victory over Rossvale was the first time both sides had ever met as Rossvale only entered the junior ranks a couple of seasons ago, writes Jim Logan.

It was the perfect start for the home side when they took the lead after only three minutes. The ball into the box was headed home by Bishop.

Against the run of play, the visitors were level. It was a typical sloppy defensive goal to concede as Rossvale capitalised on some slack play and this allowed McDermott time to slot home.

Lang got back in front not long after.

McClung had an effort at goal but this was well-blocked and then McLeod saw his effort at goal saved but the ball came to Kilmartin and from close range he blasted past the Rossvale keeper.

On the half hour mark, Lang put some breathing space between themselves and Rossvale by grabbing a third. McClung was fouled on the edge of the box and down he went, the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

The same player stepped up to slot the ball past the keeper who dived the wrong way.

In the second half, the home side grabbed their fourth of the afternoon through Kilmartin. He capitalised on a mix up in the box and made no mistake from 12 yards.

Lang introduced Young with McLeod making way.

McClung had a great chance to add to the rout but he fired over the bar from a great position and really should have scored.

A trialist replaced Boyle as Lang played out time.

The rout was completed on 89 minutes when McClung grabbed his second of the game and Lang’s fifth.

Team: Treacy, Bain, McFarlane, Craig, Bishop, Hewitt, Boyle (Trialist 87), Rushford, McClung, Kilmartin (Mackie 75), McLeod (Mackie 79). Subs not used: MacFarlane, Mulholland.
