Football: Clyde make new signing

CLYDE have snapped up winger Kevin Finlayson as they continue to reshape their squad.

Kevin played under current head coach Stuart Millar when he was assistant manager at Stranraer, winning the third division title with the side.

Finlayson started his career with Queen's Park and, after a brief period at Ross County, he returned to Hampden before signing for Stranraer in 2001. At Stair Park he made 130 appearances before joining the Cappielow club.

Stuart is delighted with the coup, claiming he expected the skilful winger to join a full time outfit.

He said: “We got him on Friday evening. He had been training with us since the start of pre season.

“He had a lot of options and he wanted to explore those options.

“He trained with Queen of the South during the day last week. He’s been full time for five years and, to be honest, he was wanting to stay full time but no full time offer came in. He had to look at his options and he decided he wanted to join us.

“I thought he would’ve been snapped up but thankfully we managed to get him.”

The aquisition of Kevin takes the squad to a total of 18. Stuart will be looking to add to his team, however concedes he will probably have to start the season with 18.

He claims he will draft in youngsters to shore up the gaps until new members can be recruited.

Finlayson will be a key player for the Clyde squad as a number of their players have yet to experience SFL matches, so Kevin's contribution will be vital in the campaign ahead.

Stuart added: “That takes us up to 18, and I think we’ll start the season with 18.

“The Partick Thistle game isn't far away, it’s only a week after we play Ross County so we’ll probably start with the 18 although Willie Sawyers has an injury just now, I don’t think he’ll be fit until a couple of weeks into the start of the season.

“I’ll get in a couple of the kids from the under-17s or under-19s so I’m not worried about that.”

Meanwhile, Clyde’s executive club is looking forward to welcoming new members for the 2010/11 season and is available at its lowest price since the Bully Wee moved to Broadwood in 1994.

Executive club members will enjoy a revamped list of benefits to help them support Clyde with a bit of extra style and comfort.
