Glencairn's Scott Smith says new signings are unlikely.

GLENS co-manager Scott Smith admitted it is looking unlikely that he will bring in any new recruits during the transfer window.

Scott was hoping to assess the squad during their game with Ashfield on Saturday and size up whether his side needed freshening up.

However the game was cancelled and as the end of the window draws closer, Scott admits it’s looking doubtful that he’ll add to the squad.

He said: “We don’t look as if we will be adding to the squad.

“We’ll wait and see how things shape up over the next couple of weeks and see how we start back.

“If we’re a bit rusty and a bit complacent then we might add to it but we’ll give the boys the opportunity to come back and continue their form at the start of the season.

“Sometimes when you bring a new face in though players can get a bit complacent themselves.”

Scott remains upbeat at the depth of the current squad and is confident they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

He added: “The majority of the boys have done it, they did it last year and hopefully that along with the experienced boys we brought in at the start of the year will be enough to hopefully get us over the line but there’s a long way to go.”

Scott admits he was disappointed at the game being cancelled, however it was not totally unexpected and he had organised extra training in case of cancellation.

Now as the worst of the weather appears to be over, he is looking forward to increasing the players’ match sharpness.

He added: “Hopefully now that’s the worst past and we can get some games under out belts.

“On Saturday we trained at Toryglen and we did a wee exercise again on the Sunday for an hour.

“Some boys were struggling on the Saturday but most were happy to go along on the Sunday and do some extra training.

“The fitness levels are looking good but at the end of the day it’s all about match fitness and we need to try and get that up to speed as quick as we can.”

Scott knows to get three points at Ashfield is no easy task.

On past occasions he admits that his side have ‘been bullied’ by the Possilpark club.

Now he aims to make sure his boys go into the game with more fighting spirit to ensure it does not happen again.

He concluded: “As I’ve said before it’s a hard place for us to go and get any kind of result.

“On past occasions we’ve been bullied which is unacceptable.

“At the end of the day you can go up there and get out played and take that on the chin but you need to go there with a bit of heart and we’ll be looking to show more of that on Saturday.

“They’re looking good at the moment. They got a good result at Glenafton in their last competitive game so they’ll be in buoyant mood.

“They’ll maybe think it’s last chance saloon for them to push for a promotion place. They need to go on a good run and we’ll have to be ready for it.

“We beat them early doors last season and then we went up there and they turned us over quite comfortably. We need to learn from that.”

Kick off for the Glen’s game against Ashfield will be 1.45pm at Saracen Park.
