Labour condemns 'ill-judged plans'

Labour stepped up calls to scrap "ill-judged plans" that would phase out short prison sentences of six months or less.

They said the measure will not provide any savings - undermining claims by justice secretary Kenny MacAskill it will end the publicly funded "bed and board" culture in jails.

Labour justice secretary Richard Baker said: "It's about time that Kenny MacAskill was honest with people in Scotland.
