Councillors meet on police spending

The plight of a police force which may have to cut the number of officers because of spending worries is due to be discussed by councillors.

The spending problem facing the Dumfries and Galloway force, one of the smallest in Scotland, has already prompted a political row.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats said it called into question the SNP's pledge of funding for 1,000 extra officers across Scotland over the next three years.
