Rutherglen residents urged to back Mary’s Meals

RUTHERGLEN MSP James Kelly is set to launch a charity challenge for Mary’s Meals.

And the politician is urging everyone to get involved in the Great Big Racketball Challenge.

During January and February, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd are encouraging everyone to take up racketball and raise funds for Mary's Meals.

Mr Kelly said: "Racketball is a really enjoyable and exciting new game. The current winter weather is not exactly conducive for outside sport and with a number of excellent courts across Glasgow there really is no excuse not to try racketball.

“With the added incentive of supporting Mary's Meals I can't think of a better time to get active and try something new.

"I'm hoping that many local residents will have a go at this fun new sport which is suitable for all ages and abilities and also to take up the Challenge for Mary's Meals."

Ron Pearman, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd Chairman said: "Firstly, racketball is the UK's fastest growing racquet sport.

"To give that little bit more motivation to get involved Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd want everyone to take part in the Great Big Racketball Challenge for Mary's Meals 2011 by creating their own racketball challenges to raise as much money as they can, through sponsorship, for Mary's Meals.”

Those wishing to compete for the sports equipment prizes should send a one page summary of their scheme to info@scottishsquash.org before the March 15 deadline.

The prizes will be awarded based on creativity, funds raised and the participation generated.

Mary’s Meals was started in 1992 by Argylle fishfarmers, Magnus McFarlane Barrow and his brother Fergus.

The charity feeds over 400,000 children in 15 different countries.
