WORKERS at a Cambuslang steelworks are being given the chance to stay healthy and help a good cause at the same time.
The Tata Steel plant at Clydebridge has offered its workers free body checks today.
And for every employee who takes up the offer, the company will donate £10 to the Schiehallion Unit at Yorkhill Hospital.
With 70 workers expected to have a body check, that means £700 for the cancer ward.
Clydebridge Steelworks manager Colin Timmins said he hoped the check-ups would provide a valuable incentive for employees to identify important changes for a healthier way of life. “The body check experts will be testing for a range of conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure problems.
“They will then be able to make recommendations on ways to improve their health by making conscious lifestyle decisions such as increasing fitness and exercise, and healthy eating.
“We care about our employees and aspire towards a healthier, more productive workforce. By offering a charitable contribution for each body check, we hope more employees will take up the opportunity to have a free health MOT.”
