FORMER players of Cathkin High School’s rugby team got together recently to pay tribute to two long-serving coaches.
Ali Jones and assistant John Fleming, affectionately known as ‘T’, have each coached at Cathkin for over 20 years.
Their dedication and hard-work did not go unnoticed and a number of former players, led by Chris Towill, decided to organise a night to honour them.
And that’s exactly what they did on May 15 when they held a tribute event at the Masonic Halls in Melrose Avenue, Rutherglen.
The night was a resounding success, with Edinburgh Gunners player and Scotland international Craig Hamilton popping in to help with the presentation.
The night was also to raise funds for the current Cathkin rugby side, who have suffered from major financial problems, and with the help of local businesses and some major rugby clubs, they were able to do that.
Organiser Chris said: “The night was a resounding success, which hopefully gave the coaches the recognition they truly deserve.
“We just hope the current players and players of the future get the chance to work with them and finances do not prevent our kids playing rugby.
“Two great guys, two great coaches, thanks for the memories guys!”
Chris paid tribute to everyone who had made the night so successful, adding: “Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Gunners deserve special thanks for their kind donations of signed tops and Craig Hamilton for the signed Edinburgh Gunners ball.
“Also to the Masonic Lodge (Melrose Avenue) for their generosity and hospitality.”
