Anger at Cambuslang road surface

CAMBUSLANG residents are unhappy at the restoration work on the area’s roads after gas works in the area.

At Cambuslang Community Council’s most recent meeting, the members were unhappy at works being done around the Greenlees Road area, close to its junctions with Stewarton Drive and Grenville Drive.

They were unhappy that just when the work seems to have been completed and the road re-surfaced, the workforce start digging it up all over again.

They are particularly unhappy that an area of red-surfaced road, on the sharp corner at the junction with Stewarton Drive, has been dug up and partly resurfaced with black tarmac –-and a ‘slow’ sign painted on the road has had its ‘O’ removed as a result.

Community council chairman Jack Taylor said: “Greenlees Road has been dug up, again, and they’ve taken the lights away again.

“It’s been dug up, time and again, then just when it seems they’ve finished, they go and dig it up again.

“The worst part of it is just at the junction with Stewarton Drive, where it’s got a red surface, but because of all these works there’s now a big black track through it.

“Nothing is done to properly reinstate things to the way they were.”

Community council member Alex Reynolds added: “It seems they resurface it, then dig it up again. I don’t know why it’s not being reinstated properly.”

However, the community council will see the road returned to the condition they want, as the local authority confirmed it will happen when work on the road is completed in another couple of months.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “The works being undertaken by Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) in the area are ongoing.

“SGN were delayed due to unforseen engineering difficulties and severe weather conditions and therefore have not met their initial programme.

“To allow the works to be completed, a further Temporary Traffic Regulation Order has been promoted from February 22 until May 10.

“The road and footway surfaces which have been excavated, and all surface treatments and road markings, will be reinstated when the works allow.”
