RUGLONIANS can enjoy a riot of their own this weekend!
The Counterfeit Clash, one of the best tribute acts to the legendary punk band, will be playing Rutherglen Town Hall this Saturday night.
Hits like I Fought The Law, Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Complete Control and White Riot will be played by the group.
The Counterfeit Clash were formed with the sole intention of performing once and once only, they topped the bill and by the time they took the stage the crowd were well on their way down memory lane.
An opportunity later arose and the success of the Counterfeit Clash was fondly remembered and the band was asked to re-form for another gig. This time however, instead of just playing songs from The Clash, they took the opportunity to cover some of their favourite songs from the New Wave era of the late 70’s & early 80’s and whipped the crowd up into a nostalgic frenzy.
Now they’re set to bring their raucous punk energy to the Town Hall.
The Clash themselves are widely regarded as one the greatest British rock bands of all time.
Based around a core of singer/guitarist Joe Strummer, guitarist/singer Mick Jones and bassist Paul Simonon, the Clash emerged as punk started to take a hold on the nation in 1976.
Their first, self-titled, album and their third record, London Calling regularly features on lists compiling the greatest albums ever.
Over the years they moved beyond punk and added soul, reggae, funk and blues to their style.
The group eventually broke up in 1986, after releasing a total of six albums and the group’s influence is still felt in modern bands today, such as the Manic Street Preachers, Green Day and the Arctic Monkeys.
Doors are at 8pm and tickets cost £8.50, or £7 for concessions. The gig is also standing only.
