Castlemilk schools work together for Haiti

FOUR Castlemilk primary schools and nurseries held an event last week in aid of funds to help the tragic victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Taking part in the Helping Hands for disaster fundraiser were Castleton Primary and Arnwood nursery, along with  Castleton Primary  and Machrie Nursery in Castlemilk.

There were smiles all round as the children joined up in a co-ordinated effort to raise funds for the emergency aid appeal.

Following a suggestion initiated by St Bartholomew’s pupil support assistant Sue McClelland, pupil councils, staff, pupils and parents of St Bartholomew’s Primary and Castleton Primary, along with their campus nurseries, Machrie nursery and Arnwood nursery, decided to take part in a Helping Hands event for Haiti. The pupils, staff and parents in all four educational establishments held a two-minute silence at 11 am on Friday, January 29, to remember those who died or were injured in the disaster.

Afterwards, the pupils from the schools all came together to join hands and sing while fundraising buckets were passed along the human chain.

The buckets were passed along the upstairs and downstairs of the schools by a chain of pupils’ hands.

Everyone commented on the wonderful way in which the schools raised funds for such a worthy cause.

The silence was followed by all of the children and adults present singing ‘He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.’

The children of Castleton Primary School and Arnwood Nursery collected £300, while at St Bartholomew’s Primary and Machrie Nursery over £500 was raised.

Congratulations to all concerned for raising such a fantastic amount of cash for the Haiti disaster fund.
