Rutherglen school quick on the draw
BURGH Primary went cartoon crazy last week when the school held their very own red carpet premieres.
The project, in association with Clyde Gateway, saw four groups of Primary 4/5 children work on their own animated short films.
And the short films were unveiled at a premiere for which the whole school, and parents, attended.
Burgh Primary’s Dorothy Bowman, thought the event had many positives.
She said: “Obviously it helped the children with art and design, but it also benefited their IT skills, and helped them with language as well.
“The project started when the school’s two pupil councilors interviewed and then chose an artist to work with.
“They chose Sha Nazir, and he then came into the school every afternoon for three weeks to help them.
“The children also went on a bus tour of famous Glasgow landmarks, and had to incorporate that into their cartoons.”
And once the kids’ work was completed, they were able to show them off to fellow pupils.
Dorothy added: “We had a big red carpet afternoon to show off the four films, and they were all very good.
“Each film was a couple of minutes long, all the children took part, and each child was given a certificate for their work.
“The end of each cartoon also had credits running along the screen, which showed off all the children’s names.
“They all worked very hard on the cartoons.”
The films were Back To Old Glasgow, by Natasha Darroch, Brandon McEwan, Jack Morrison, James Anderson and Alana Duncan.
The Poor Pup was made by Brogan McDonald, Rebecca MacVicar, Bethany Docherty, Lauren Saunders, Morganleigh Grant and Megan McGall.
The Great Jail Break was worked on by Gary Rainey, Matthew McGeachin, Caitlyn Anne Naismith, Abbey Miller, Darren Girvan and Declan McElroy.
And Bicycle Cyclers was made by Taylor Rae, Kane McIntosh, Kristopher Cochrane, Vinny Rainey, Chantel Squire, Ross Mannion and Dillon Weir.
