Help wanted at Rutherglen Volunteer Centre

RUTHERGLEN and Cambuslang residents who haven’t made their 2010 New Year Resolutions are being encouraged to help others.

SoLVE is the Volunteer Centre for South Lanarkshire and they have over 400 different types of volunteering opportunities on offer.

The Volunteer Centre provides a point of contact for anyone interested in volunteering. Members of the public can browse through the directory of opportunities, speak to staff and register for volunteering. They provide appointments in Rutherglen on a weekly basis.

A spokesman said: “Maybe you want to change your life, or you need experience to get into training, college or for your CV.

“Volunteering changes lives- for volunteers, for the organisations they help and for the people who benefit.

“Solve Volunteer Centre provides a comprehensive service to promote, support and advise on volunteering to organisations and individuals. We operate in all areas of South Lanarkshire offering appointments to potential volunteers, access to a directory of over 400 volunteering opportunities, an online service, training for organisations and volunteers and tailored support to organisations who work with volunteers.

“We deliver Quality Standards Awards to recognise organisations that provide quality volunteer opportunities, Volunteer of the Year awards and also administer the MV Awards for young volunteers aged 16 – 25 years.”

Solve has a training programme throughout the year which can be accessed by organisations and volunteers in their new in-house training suite which is also available for hire to other organisations.

One of their main remits is to work with voluntary organisations to ensure they provide a positive experience and personal development for all volunteers.
