Friends of Cambuslang Park get cash boost

THE Friends of Cambuslang Park are set to benefit with new sports equipment, thanks to a grant from Cambuslang Community Council.

The Friends made an application to the community council through their Morrison Park Fund for equipment totalling over £3000.

And although their overall application was rejected by community council members, they agreed to fund part of their application.

The council members approved a grant of £230, which will buy Supabakas, which are fun footballing equipment for youngsters.

Secretary Ian Frame said: “We have received a letter from the Friends of Cambuslang Park, who are asking us to help them with the provision of sports equipment.

“They are looking for money to buy 200 Supabakas, which are used for keepie-uppies, one of the Moonwalkerz, which is a big circular ball which kids can go inside, and a container to keep them all in.

“The Supabakas cost around £230, Moonwalkerz are £1895.50, and the container comes to around £1403.”

Chairman Jack Taylor said: “Last month we had an application for £700 which we rejected as we decided to keep an upper limit of £400 on applications.

“If we carried on the way we were going, the fund would be emptied in no time. Maybe we should have thought about putting a limit on it four or five years ago.”

The community council discussed the application and decided to discard the application for the Moonwalkerz and the container, as they were above their maximum grant threshold.

Mr Frame said: “Can I suggest we meet them halfway, and give them £230 for the Supabakas?”

Community councillor Eleanor Wallace added: “They have some very good people who are going for every bit of money they can, which is a good indicator they have competent people there.”

Cambuslang Community Council are now writing to their lawyers who will approve the decision to give the grant of £230.
