CATHKIN Community Nursery held a Look Good, Feel Great fashion show last week.
Over the course of the previous 10 weeks, the parents had been involved in workshops on topics such as nutrition, body shape analysis, styling advice and makeover and presentation.
To celebrate their success, the parents showed their new looks as they paraded down the catwalk.
A spokeswoman for the nursery said: “We put in a successful bid for £1200 to Cambuslang Integrated Childrens’ Services.
“As a consequence we were able to employ two facilitators, one of them being one of our parents who we’re very proud of, with their workshop Look Good, Feel Good.
“It was all about getting people to feel good about themselves, both inside and out, and getting them to make positive changes in their lives, to help them reach their potential.
“Some of our parents had such low self-esteem and lacked self-worth.
“This showed something could be done, but it was not a quick fix.
“We identified 10 parents who were wanting to feel a bit better about themselves.
“The first part was a course where they did a Sedona workshop, talking how they felt about themselves and being honest, looking at nutrition with herbal life products, and given a consultation and goal sheet which they had to fill out.
“They also had homework, to find out what makes them feel good about themselves, and what doesn’t.
“Session two was helping them to look good, concentrating on things like make up products, what to wear and what not to wear.
“They also had homework, to think about the clothes they were wearing and how they could wear more colours to help brighten up their life.
“This went on for six weeks, and by the end the parents had the confidence to host a fashion show.”
The fashion show event was attended by South Lanarkshire Provost Russell Clearie.
The spokeswoman continued: “It went fantastically well, and everyone who took part looked just fabulous.
“They were allowed to keep the clothes they had bought, as a special something to remind them of how good they looked and how good they felt.
“It was a very emotional event. One parent said ‘I’ve loved every minute of this, and I want to continue to believe I am this person, as I feel good and look great.’ That will stay with me till the day I die, and it sums up what the whole thing was about.“
Cathkin Community Nursery thanked Ellie Emanuelle, the parent who helped them with the workshop, Camglen Community Radio for providing the music for the event, and the Cambuslang Learning Community’s Patricia Rossi and Andrea Reid.
