SPAR in Halfway have made a generous donation to St Cadoc’s Primary after a number of items were stolen from the school.
As reported recently in the Reformer, pupils of the Cambuslang school are raising funds following a series of break-ins which resulted in a television and a Nintendo Wii console, among other items, being stolen.
Upon hearing of the school’s plight, the Woodland Crescent store decided to help, raising £100 thanks to the generous donations of customers.
The shop asked for donations and the good-hearted people rallied round.
The school also invited representatives from the school to attend their end-of-term assembly last Tuesday.
Spar retailer Amjad Farouq and field sales executive Jason MacLeod attended the event and presented the cheque to the school.
The Cambuslang store is part of the Spar Symbol Group, which is run in Scotland by retailer and wholesaler C J Lang and Son Limited.
In addition to the money raised in Spar Woodland Crescent, C J Lang and Son Limited sent the school teddy bears to raffle in order to raise funds. Š
Jason MacLeod said: “We feel Spar stores are very much part of the community in which they serve. Mr Farouq has certainly engaged in the spirit of this by supporting the schoolchildren at St Cadoc’s.”
Headteacher Ann Marie McConnell said: “We appreciate the support that Spar have provided to the school and I would also like to thank parents and members of the local community for all that they have done over this term to support the school.”
Police are still appealing for any information on the thefts, which took place at the school in February.
A spokesman said: “There was a break-in between February 11 and 12 at St Cadoc’s. A 42-inch television was stolen as well as a Nintendo Wii. A window was also damaged.
“If anyone has any information or if anyone has been offered a 42-inch television or a Nintendo Wii for a cheap price then please call the community policing team at Cambuslang on 207 4120.”
