Pet project is a winner for primary pupils

LOCAL primary school pupils brushed off rivals to win an art competition.

Bankhead and Toryglen Primary pupils were set the challenge of designing snazzy pictures to go on vaccination certificates and reminder cards at the Ardmory Veterinary Clinic in Toryglen.

The kids were encouraged to make their pictures of animals as colourful as possible for the customers.

And all the youngsters rose to the challenge and created some stunning pieces of art, from which it was difficult to choose a winner, as veterinarian Michael Orsi explained:

“First of all we just phoned the schools to make sure they were interested. We contacted four primary schools and Bankhead and Toryglen said they would be very interested in taking part so we sorted out the details and that was it.

“The pictures go on the vaccination certificates and booster reminder cards. The vaccination certificates are with the animal for the rest of its life and is updated everytime it gets a shot. The appointment reminder cards are like postcards sent through to the owners to remind them their pet has an appointment.

“We were all delighted with the standard of the drawings the children created and everyone had a lot of fun doing it.

“Being a new practice we wanted to personalise our vaccination certificates and booster reminder cards so asked the local primary schools to create some artwork for us.

“We were extremely pleased with the result and hope the children will enjoy their prize.”

Class primary five/six from Toryglen Primary and classes primary one, primary six/seven and primary seven from Bankhead took part.

The winning pictures were by Finley Nimmo, Olivia McLellan, Beth Law, Karen Magee and Eilidh Fraser of Bankhead Primary and Haneen Mohammed of Toryglen Primary. The prizes included a framed certificate, t-shirt with their design, some art materials and the whole class got pencils and vouchers to go to World of Wings near Cumbernauld.
