Pasta with spider was on menu for Lucinda
A CATHKIN woman received the shock of her life when she opened her pasta to find a spider waiting inside.
Lucinda Sanders was making her dinner one evening when she found the deceased arachnid in her meal.
She had bought the foodstuff from the ASDA Toryglen superstore and was taken aback upon discovering the spider.
She said: “I went to make dinner and it was an Asda packet of pasta and there was a spider in it.
“Me and my partner had taken the product in the container with the spider back to Asda in Toryglen on the Tuesday morning. The manager I spoke to was very panicky and he offered me a five pound gift voucher and he said ‘that’s nothing compared to what the suppliers will give you for compensation’.”
Despite being promised a phone call from the suppliers Lucinda did not receive any contact from them and continued to chase up Asda for answers: “I phoned the manager back at Asda and told him I hadn’t had any phone call from the suppliers and he told me he wasn’t long off the phone to them and they had phoned me this afternoon – which they hadn’t.”
Lucinda suffers from arachnophobia which understandably made the situation greatly distressing. She added: “I got a letter from Asda stores in Leeds thanking me for contacting them about the spider and they will investigate in to it.”
“I phoned citizen’s advice and they told me I could claim compensation.
”They were so adamant at the Asda in Toryglen that I was going to receive compensation and I’m so angry at getting messed about.
“I phoned the number on the letter and I spoke to someone, I gave him the reference number. He asked if I would like to pass a message on to the suppliers and I said no I would like to speak to them myself. He then told me under no circumstances could he give me the suppliers name and address and that the case was now closed and hung up the phone.”
A spokesperson for ASDA claimed there would be an investigation into the product and that the customer had already been offered compensation.
They said: "Now that the product's been returned to the store, we have immediately started a thorough investigation. We have had no other complaints of this nature, so this appears to be an isolated incident. We've already compensated the customer and apologised for any inconvenience caused.”
