Musicians battle it out at Venu

RUTHERGLEN musicians are being invited to showcase their talents at a battle of the bands competition at the Venu.

The site of the former Royale Snooker Club will hold the event, expected to start in June, with £1000 prize money up for grabs.

Organiser of the event, Alex McDowall, insists he is seeking to make the Venu into a music hotspot in Rutherglen.

He said: “We’re hoping that this can kick start something bigger and that we could hold band nights on a regular basis.

“We want to give them to opportunity to play locally.

“There isn’t really anything like that in Rutherglen or anywhere abouts and we know there’s a lot of talent out there so we think it could be a success.

“Look at the bands The Vagabonds, they’re from Rutherglen and they are quite successful.

“We’d be looking to hold it in the function hall, there’s great acoustics through there.”

Bands will be given the opportunity to sell their own tickets for the event, where a percentage of the sales will go towards the prize money and another per cent will be the bands to keep.
