Rutherglen ready to showcase talent in fabulous contest

YOU can forget Paul Potts, and leave break-dancing George Sampson behind, because it’s time for Rutherglen to show off its own talented singers and comedians.

Dr Gorman’s Bar is set to launch its own talent initiative that will see locals stepping on-stage to sing or joke for success.

And there’s a great prize for whoever eventually comes out on top, with a fabulous £1000 first prize up for grabs plus a supply of Corona for a year.

Richard McKail of the pub is sure that there will be plenty of interest in the contest.

He said: “ Since we’ve been here back in 2000, we’ve been running karaoke contests, and the quality has just been getting better and better each year.

“It was becoming more like a cabaret night than just karaoke.

“So we wanted to do something that will highlight the talent we’ve got here, and we’re offering a good prize as well.

“I think that there’s a lot of singing talent in Rutherglen, so we’re hoping for a lot of entrants.”

You don’t just need to be a singer to be in with a chance, as the contest will accept entries from comedians wanting to try their patter too.

Acoustic singers can also try their luck, although bands will not be able to take part.

The competition starts this Saturday, October 11, and entry is free, with the prize being provided in association with Designer Entertainments and Corona Beer.

There will be eight heats, and the competition will run all the way until the semi-finals in December, and the final will be held on Saturday January 10, before a celebrity panel of judges.
