RUTHERGLEN singer Matt Littlefair can’t wait for his next gig, even if it is the last until September.
Matt is enjoying success with rock band Would Be Kings, and they will again take to the stage at Glasgow’s Classic Grand venue on Friday, June 19.
After that though, Matt will jet off to the USA to teach kids acting in New Jersey.
That means the band will be on hiatus until later this year.
The gig will also promote the band releasing another two songs onto iTunes, brand new song Something Changed and old favourite, Red on Red.
Matt (24) is hoping to pull in a big crowd given it will be a while until the band are on stage again: “It’s going to be the last for a while, September 5 in fact.
“After it I’m going to America on something similar to Camp America, so we’re hoping for a decent turnout.”
The band have welcomed back an old face in guitarist Sean Currie, and Matt thinks that is exactly what they need after a period of relative upheaval among the line-up.
The two songs they are releasing come from different ends of the bands style, with Something Changed tapping into their ear for a commercial hit, and Red on Red being a little more experimental.
However, they did decide to strip a lot of the different noises on Red on Red, something the band are sure was the right idea.
And the former Cathkin High pupil thinks their music is pulling in a new direction: “At one point we used a lot of sound effects and a lot of complicated sounds. But we’ve taken that away on Red on Red and it’s like a completely new song, much cleaner.
“The song is now very simple, and there’s not much vocals, it’s more about the guitars and rhythms.
“Something Changed is a new song and it’s quite catchy. It’s quite mainstream, very simple and it’s fun to play.”
Tickets for Would Be Kings Classic Grand gig are priced at £6 and can be bought from the band or from Ticketweb at www.ticketweb.co.uk. Go to www.myspace.com/wouldbekings for more information.
