Playing politics in the community

LAST week’s letters page "Summerfest chairman’s views" was I thought as a terrible slight on a tireless volunteer worker who for 12 months a year does wonders to ensure that the Summerfest is an every growing success and an award winning event for the people of Cambuslang.

There where four letters from Patricia Osborne, JM Cowan, Ricky Davidson and Andy Moffat, all Labour Party office bearers, making various attacks on John Edgar, Summerfest Chairperson.

I find it very sad that what would appear to be a political party offensive on a hard working volunteer.

This sort of behaviour has the potential too deter future people from becoming community volunteers.

As a fellow community volunteer I respect John Edgar both as a volunteer and a person knowing the amount of time and effort he puts into many local community groups.

Without the likes of people like John who would fill the breach? These people should be thanking John and his committee for giving back to the local area not taking potshots for some political agenda.

I say well done John for doing a sterling job and everybody else like him who day in day out give up there time unselfishly for others, keep up the good work.
